Gigi & Babe

Caker Couple
We’re so excited to introduce our latest Caker couple, Gigi and Babe! Gigi and Babe were practically made for each other, a mutual realisation they had soon after they met. After almost a year of uncertainty and separation, and at very short notice, they gathered together a small group of loved ones and made it official. Tying the knot in 2020 wasn’t the easiest feat but, as you can see, there are still ways to find special moments amongst all the madness.

We asked Gigi and Babe to tell us a little bit about one another...
“Babe is the most beautiful person I’ve ever met. He is always the most patient, loving, thoughtful and considerate. Babe makes me laugh like no other! Since I’ve met Babe my life has been bright. Everyone who meets him falls in love with his puppy dog eyes and sweet caring nature. Babe truly lives up to his name haha he is sexy as hell! I truly am the luckiest girl in the world. I love him beyond words!” - Gigi. “Gigi is the love of my life; my twin flame. Often times I say that our souls are reunited in this current lifetime. She has a huge heart and can connect with so many people. She is a force for love, always there to comfort those around her in need. Gigi is a light for everyone around her, inspiring others with her style and joy. She inspires me everyday to live life to the fullest in complete harmony to spread our transcendental love to the world.” - Babe
I'm sure a wedding at the moment needs a lot of compromise, how did you go about planning your day?
Planning this wedding was difficult. Not gonna lie. On top of the normal wedding planning stress we had to deal with the unfortunate reality that we couldn’t have the dream wedding we had hoped for. Although our day was really special and beautiful we weren’t able to have all of our loved ones and friends with us. We got engaged in January and then Babe left for marine corp boot camp. Then a month before he was due to come home, covid-19 hit and canceled all of our plans. It wouldn’t be for another 10 months till we saw each other again. This was an extraordinarily hard time for us. Being apart that long and not knowing when we would see each other again was crazy! So when the time came for him to take leave and come home we had to rush and plan a wedding with a months notice. So to compromise we had to keep the ceremony and the guest list small. A big downside was not having gigi’s family there with us. All in attendance, though not many, were lucky to bear witness for our special day.
Tell us about the day you got engaged?
Sooo, I’ve always been really good at ruining surprises for myself. Babe had no choice but to propose to me as soon as he picked up the ring from the jewelers that day. I knew something was up!! I felt bad that I ruined his surprise but at the end of it all it was really sweet and special. He got down on one knee in our tiny studio apartment while I sat on the bed in total disbelief and happiness. I’ll always remember that day.
You went for our Lemon Strawberry Poppyseed Cake Kit (great choice!), how was the process making it and how did it taste?
So we actually made all three cakes in the cake kit trio. The night before our wedding, we made them all, together, late into the wee hours of the next morning. It was actually really fun and super sweet. They were easy to make! The instructions were simple and flawless. We chose to use goats milk with a couple of the cakes actually and we loved it. They turned out beautifully. We chose the lemon poppyseed cake to serve at our after wedding luncheon with Babes family and a few of our friends. We decorated them all with extra flowers our florist, Anthony Maslo of @theboywhocriedflowers, gave us. They turned out so beautiful and I’m so happy we were able to say we made them ourselves!
What other food did you eat at your wedding?
We had our after wedding luncheon at Castaways in Burbank, CA. The most beautiful views of all of Los Angeles! We all ate something different that day. For appetizers we had a really beautiful charcuterie board. Babe had a classic sirloin steak with seasonal vegetables. Gigi had corned beef hash also with a side of seasonal vegetables. Champagne and tequila all around!
What do you two do on a lazy Sunday afternoon together?
We like to keep it pretty simple and sweet. Either we chill all day in bed binge watching our favorite shows or movies. Or we really enjoy going to the beach or going on hikes.
How did you two meet?
Babe and I met online 2 years ago. After exchanging messages and talking on the phone for a couple weeks he took me out on a really special date. Exactly 2 years ago this month! We both knew instantly that we were meant to be together.
Do you have a honeymoon getaway planned?
No honeymoon planned, not at the moment. But we are hoping to get away somewhere special as soon as restrictions let up and we are able to travel without worry. Until then we are settling in to our new home and exploring the east coast!
